Hi, I used an editorial service for an assessment and basically have been ripped off and left with a report that is unfit for purpose, suggesting, along with other evidence, that the editor in question didn't have the capacity to do the job. I've tried complaining but they're trying to brush me off. Trading standards accepted I had a case and suggested the small claims court, but stated that since I aim eventually to publish, I am a small business. Anyone know where to go for legal advice on which laws apply? I have no money, so need any free advice I can find.

After their contemptuous response to my complaint, I now feel strongly that these people should not be allowed to prey on and hurt unsuspecting writers.

I would say if you live in the UK - good people to contact are The Citizen Advice Bureau - if they can't help they will give you advice and guide you to people who would take on your case.

Hope this helps.
