Science Fiction

What does everyone think of the genre? Do you enjoy reading it? What about writing it? Or even watching it? Any tips on how to write Sci-Fi?

Hi Terri

I love science fiction and I've found all the best books and TV series all have something to keep them grounded and not get too far-fetched...you can make the story as fantastic as you like but there has to be something the reader can latch on to so they don't get lost in all the fiction...take Doctor Who, no matter how many aliens or planets he travels to he always comes back to Earth at some point and all of his companions are human so the fans don't start thinking "Why should I care about what this alien is doing?"

I hope this helps.

Hi Terri,

I personally don't like sci-fi, purely because it doesn't interest me in the slightest. I much prefer thrillers, chick-lit and real life stuff to anything fantastical or science 'fictiony'.

That's not to say that I would never read a book in this genre, it is just I am yet to find one that holds my attention span for long enough! Likewise I don't watch any sci-fi.

Many people love this genre though and I am probably the odd one out!

As for tips, I probably am not the best person to ask, however I would suggest, like all other writing, to write with passion and write what you love to write. I think any book written with love and care will always be a success.
