Script writing

Hey everyone,

I’m wondering if you can help me.

I’ve recently started writing scripts, and one of the short films is getting made. How much should I be expected to be paid? I’m not a professional writer, nor do I have any training, it’s something I enjoy doing and this would be my first paid writing job.

Is there a minimum wage for it?

Thank you

Thank you Andy,

We’re applying for funding and I was told to think of a reasonable amount to put forward.

I’ll let you know how it goes ☺️

Hi Natalie

Well done on getting one of your scripts produced! Short films are usually made by independent production companies making their films on an extremely low budget so I wouldn't expect much at all.

I've had two of my scripts made into short films. They were both done on a tiny budget. Favours were called in, cast and crew all worked for free. I didn't get paid for any of it.

Don't let low budget put you off. If all the crew are dedicated and know what they're doing, you'll still end up with a good-looking production, and if they put it do a film festival or two, you'll see your name up there on the big screen. That's a real buzz that makes up for a lack of pay.

All of that is based on my own experiences. Please come back to the forum and let us know how you get on with it. Good luck.
