The Second Draft

Hi,

I was just wondering about the second draft.

Is it a complete re-write or, is it a case of going through the novel, saving a copy of the document making amendments/cutting/rewriting/checking spelling grammar etc?

Thanks

Essentially I think a second draft should initiating first of all a re-reading of your work in the detached assumption of being a reader rather than a writer. As you read whatever seems incomprehensible, implausible and incomplete have to be rewritten. It s essential that the process of re-reading and re-writing are integrated and go on together. That way your writing grows/ develops towards meeting the reading public, whoever you conceive they are.

Thank you all for the replies.

Visnja, That's a really good idea, I hadn't thought of doing that.

Will bear this all in mind when I am ready to begin reviewing my work.

"I have however found it difficult to perfect my first few chapters of on of my novels." For me it's the worst part of the rewriting process: reviewing the first chapters.
