Self Publishing - Best way forward?

Hi I have completed my manuscript and it needs to be edited now. I am considering self publishing but it is like a minefield out there, different companies offering publishing packages. I don't mind investing in this at all but would like a service that would get my book out there the best way with the least royalties. (Dont we all?) Its a personal story about domestic violence and i see it has a misery memoir with the potential of helping other victims, well that is what i would love to achieve. Therefore i would like an editor who perhaps would help me shine my book in the best light. Any advice on getting my book to the next stage would be really appreciated. Stephanie

Editing is second only in importance to writing the book in the first place. It's the process of taking the raw material and polishing it to the best it can be. There are different sorts of editorial process, and it's up to you which you are prepared to pay for. Worth reading this:

Editors charge by the hour for the simple reason that the more they have to do, the longer it takes. They not only look at punctuation and grammar errors, but a good one will tell you about any plot problems or inconsistencies, and send you questions if they are unsure as to your meaning. Some editors take SciFi, others historical, and so forth; you need an author who can handle your particular type of content.

Royalties are what you would earn per copy of book sold, so you want lots of them!

Best of luck,

Lorraine
