Sending off a manuscript

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could help...

I'm sending off a part of the manuscript for my novel on Monday to a publishing house that has requested submissions, but they've given little information about how to display the content. It is too late to send them an email asking, so....

1. Would everyone normally 1.5 space/double space their work? (meaning that the first 50 pages will actually roughly be the first 25 pages, but double spaced).

2. Would everyone normally start each new chapter on a new A4 page (meaning that in fact the first 50 pages could be as little as 20 pages, but double spaced and with extra room left to start each new paragraph on a fresh page).

Hope that makes sense, and any help is greatly appreciated :)

Hi Chris

Thanks for the link, I've just submitted one of my stories. Mine is 1.5 spaced and I have started each chapter on a new page.

Hi Kate,

Thanks very much, really appreciate your help. I think I'll take your advice and double space. I went back to their site but still couldn't find any more info! It's actually for the Jonathan Cape June Open submissions, so it's a unique situation I suppose:

Going to send it off today!

I suggest double spacing, but I don't think it's necessary to start a chapter on a new page. If you are certain that there are no submission guidelines on their website, then I guess they can't complain if they get double spaced instead of 1.5 spaced - but I would double check their website if I were you.
