Should I or would it be easier if I wrote my planned big book into a short story consisting of only a chapters worth of pages? You know, how T.V producers and directors plan episodes based on books, they get the story for each episode and make a short story out of what they want. Do you think it would be an easier process than writing a big book then once I have written the short story, start filling in the gaps?
I kind of wrote my first book that way. Each chapter just had one word in capitals representing the thing it would become. The end was just a brief description. I wrote something like
'They'll get to the island, there will be some sort of lovely surprise and in amongst the celebration all will be revealed.'
Yeah, that vague.
When a chapter occurred to me, I wrote it and then deleted it's representing word. (Always a nice moment, that.) Of course, I was lucky my chapters could be summed up in that way. You could use a few lines in capitals describing what you want to appear in the hole. Look at the phrases each day and see which sparks your imagination that day. It worked for me and although I'm going to try writing my next book chronologically, I'm sure in reality it will end up written with the same method.
