Signing up with an agent

Is it really worth signing up with an agent and do they always get results?

Thank you for that, I did look for an agent at one time. But at the time I wasnt very confident with the whole publishing process. Plus I was recovering from illness.

It depends on what you want - an agent has a much better chance of selling your book to one of the big publishers and will handle things like advances and foreign rights sales for you. Typically, the fees are 10-15% and a good agent is well worth this.

If you're not aiming for the main publishers and are happy to take on the different roles (or contract them out) such as editing and cover design (and I'd always recommend contracting them out) then you can manage the whole process yourself and retain 100% of the royalties.

Hope this helps :)
