I am playing the Submission game for the first time having sent out about twenty submissions with covering letter and sample etc.The rejections are gradually arriving after about two months (all very nice ) this is fine and is expected. Do I modify my submissions, story sample etc or continue sending the same material to new Publishers ?

Most gratefull for your replies which have helped a lot. My children's stories are only about 1500 words apiece so sending a little portion seems a bit datt. I will send the first story complete and a short description of the other four.I 'll tweek my covering letter as well.Pretending to be Enid Blyton may not have gone down as well as I hoped !
Oh the curse of being so damned creative!
Keep taking the tablets Regards Dave Neal
Hello Dave,
I personally haven't prepared anything to send out to publishers. A thumbs up for being quite forward.
In my view, you should go through your manuscript again. There might be some teensy weensy point which the publishers might have not liked. It may be in the covering letter or the first chapter. So there is no harm in going through everything once again and then sending out the manuscript to other publishers.

I attended the How to Hook an Agent last year and the advice given at the workshop was as John said. Avoid blanket submissions, make it specific for each named agent and write a professional letter (like a job application).
Good luck
