Hi all,
I've just finished my first novel and am about to start looking for an agent. I'm doing my research, obviously, trying to figure out who might like my writing.
But actually, what I'm worried about is finding someone I'm going to like. After all, the point is to share my writing, projects and a fair piece of my work life with them. So I'm a little nervous not to get it wrong. I know that if I get any answer at all, I'll be so glad I'm likely to go with the first agent who'll have me. But I know myself, if I don't feel comfortable with my agent, I'll stop writing just to avoid them.
Does anyone have a few pointers on things to look for, warning signs to avoid and what one can reasonably expect?
Thanks!
Nathalie
At this stage, I think your main and hardest hurdle is to find an agent that might be interested in looking at your work. You'd be surprised to find out that most of them are "picky" or simply too overwhelmed with similar enquiries and submissions that it would take a high degree of luck to get noticed, even if you think your writing skills and your story are unique. Good luck, however.
