Having written a children's picture book, what is a suitable word count?

Publishers websites often have guidelines, but generally there seems to be a maximum of 1000 words & preferably less.

Hi, Deborah, I think it would depend on the age group you are aiming your story at eg baby books can just be a words or a few words with an illustration. Perhaps it would help to read other childrens books that are similar to what you have written. Might help.

Kind regards

Anne
