I agree with David only two projects. I have started a number of short stories at different times so as not to lose the idea. Some I will run with later, Some work, some don't.
I usually have a few on the go at the same time. While I'm redrafting one novel, I'll be starting the first draft of another novel while jotting down any ideas I have for future works.
