I've learnt that nothing can be completely perfect first time round. In fact, I learnt that nothing you write ever will be perfect. There will always be things that you can do differently, but the great thing is you get to try new things, make mistakes, and do it over and over again. It'll never get old. It's about constantly reinventing your writing and the way you do things! Great question, Adrian.
I've learned that it's really hard work and that it takes a lot of patience, dedication, observation of the world and people around you, a critical eye, planning and commitment. I've also learned to be kind to myself when I can't get down to it and to use non-writing periods to absorb and 'compost' ideas. It's definitely not for the faint hearted!
