Hello,
I have taken on board advice and entered my ghost story into 3 different competitions now. I can't stand the waiting around for results and the sinking feeling I get when I receive the results and realise I've neither won nor been shortlisted etc. I understand that writers have to put up with rejection but it really makes one want to give up altogether.
I've submitted my story to editors and I've always received great feedback, one of which gave me such hope and made me feel like I was actually good at writing.
I'm just wondering what more I can do with my short story. Do I keep entering competitions or is there anyway I could try and get published?
Any ideas... Thanks in advance.
Definitely don't give up. People don't send their work off to editors if they aren't serious about it so keep at it.
There's loads of writing tips and advice online. Have a Google-search. Check the advice on different websites and see which are the consistent ones. In doing that, you might decide that your story needs tweaked a bit before you send it off again.
Anyway, the results from your three competitions aren't in yet, are they? So you never know...
Lorraine, thank you for your reply. You are right about the fact that it really does knock your confidence when you don't win or even be shortlisted etc.. Just to come 2nd or 3rd would make me feel better. Thanks for the suggestions, I shall take a look at the link.
