What influences your choice of books to read?

Is it the author, the genre, or both?

I read contemporary award-winning authors, because, learn-from-the-best is my motto.

I primarily read to see how the best contemporary authors construct their novels.

I am extremely naughty when it comes to choosing what to read. I ALWAYS choose a book based on its cover. If I am looking for something new to read then I always go for something that catches my eye. Saying that, I do tend to read the same authors and stray towards the same genre a lot as they are my comfort zone.

I also tend to read newly published books rather than classics as I feel I need to be engaged in the current market and what is selling now, rather than what sold 50-100 years ago!! I think it is important to see what publishers are publishing now and why current books are successful.
