What should happen next?

Hi Everyone,

I have recently wrote the seventh chapter on my book and I have uploaded it to shared work for you all to see. I was wondering if you could comment and tell me what you would write next as I'm a bit tongue tied on what should happen next.

Thank you :)

Personally I think you're on your own here - you're the only person who knows what has gone before, the nature of your characters and how you want the overall story to pan out.

If you've ground to a halt, as happens to most of us (certainly to me!), you have various options such as

- put the whole thing away for at least a couple of weeks, (but note down any thoughts/observations that come to you for later use), then look at it afresh, or

- go back to the beginning and spend time carefully editing and polishing what has gone before, or

- spend time writing a bit about each character, history, loves/hates etc to get to know them better, or

- skip to writing a later chapter.

All of these give you a chance to work around the current sticking point until your direction becomes clearer. Hope that's of some help, good luck.
