Per session I stop just before my head explodes - if not interrupted before.
I never know what would be "just right".
Yes, over-working a text can ruin it.
It is especially important to not overwork individual sentences.
Leaving a piece of work some days, even weeks, can be a very helpful first step to all editing and revision.
Being prepared to dump whole sections is also significant.
No I don't think one can judge one's own work. Despite the fact that everything I produce is a work of literary genius there is a tragic failure by others to comprehend this. On the other hand there is an immense amount of work out there that is utter drivel.
Would some guidance on editing be useful? (I posted some rubbish on this a few days ago).
