Where can you write?

Note that is a distinct question to 'where DO you write', which has been asked before.

My prompt being, my mother has just called upstairs (I am living at home until I complete my degree, symptomatic of the writer) to say "Dinner's ready!"

And I have replied, in a moment of utter mental abstraction, "OK, bye."

Go figure!

The point being, does anyone else, like me, have a mental level they can slip into, anytime, anywhere? Or does it have to be in the tool shed with a cup of tea and a candle? I can write at work, in the car, in the bath, almost anywhere. But I wonder if some writers can't?

Yep. I find that providing I have the necessary tools (pen paper, phone, laptop) I could be anywhere and be able to settle down and write.

Being that I travel to and from work using the tube. Often on my way home it is very cramped I wrote many of my notes/scenes/dialogue using the note application on my phone.

At the moment I am using the phone for jotting down new ideas for other stories.

It works for me because it's one place that I can't do very much else other than read. But if I am standing up and someone's bag is basically in my face, I can pull out my phone and make some notes.

My new netbook arrives in a few days so I should be able to be more productive as I will have a proper keyboard!

Absolutely! Just ask my finace. Sometimes he can be talking to be for ages and i havent heard a single word he has said. I tend to nod, smile occasionally and hope I make the appropriate sounds, but the moment he asks me a question and I stare at him blankly he knows I have been too involved with writing! The only time I struggle to become completely immersed in what I am writing is when Loony Toons and Disney films are on the TV :) so yes, I have that special place in my mind that allows me to shut out the world :)
