You're on a desert island and you have managed to save one of your prized possessions, your favourite book. Which is it ? what is the single book that you could read over and over again and never get fed up. No entire collections, no trilogy's. Just one simple story that you have had for years and never get staled of reading. I will kick off. The one book that I would have with me is " The wind in the willows" by Kenneth Grahame. This takes me back to my childhood and a story I could always enjoy. So come on now no cheating lets see what people really enjoy.
It has to be "Winnie the Pooh". Why? Apart from the stories the use of English is fantastic.
As well as the book I do have an anthology of all the Pooh material. When my wife frequently landed in hospital I would take it in for the evening visits and (fairly) quietly read a chapter each day. If we pretended that we didn't notice we could spot that people that could would move down the ward to listen to the story. I reckon that that makes a book pretty good.
:-)
Arthur, High King of Britain by Michael Morpurgo, is a brilliant book full of chivalric tales.
It was a finalist for the prestigious Carnegie Medal.
Good question. Very very good.
The Shell Seekers.
I read it at least once a year, I always enjoy it. It makes me smile and it makes me want to scream at some of the characters, they're so horrible.
It's taughts me some valuable lessons in life and also some history lessons, bringing to life, the real impact of the second world war. Not the actual battle bit, more what life was like for people back home in England.
