The Writers Bureau..

Has anybody ever heard or applied for the writersbureau.com? I recently purchased a writing magazine and the website was advertised inside it. It says that it is a online writing course where you can also earn why you work, I'm not sure how true this is and wondered if anyone may have any further knowledge?

I have heard of them; they used to send me information. I never did use them though. I did use a similar company in Australia though, and found them very critical, which is okay if you've been writing for a while, and are reasonably confident, but soul destroying if you are a novice, like I was then.

So, a word of caution if you do embark on such a course, be prepared for some strong criticism.

I chose to join writer's groups, which I found very useful, and let my ability improve gradually. I also use the Internet as an information source. There is an enormous amount of resource on the Internet, course, techniques, tools for writers, etc.

There are also some reasonably priced courses on the Internet. But check their credibility first.

There are also some great books on the subject. I might even write one myself.

Another source is Libraries. They sometimes organize writer's events. I went to one in Wiltshire, which was very helpful.

Good luck Catherine.

Please don't hesitate to ask, if you need any help.

Regards Maurice

I enrolled with WB recently and have no complaints, but I think that is because I live in Zimbabwe, where access to night schools/community colleges etc. is pretty much non-existent.

WB is perfect for less developed countries, but yes, it comes at a price! I would never have enrolled with them had I been living in the UK or the US.

Personally, I prefer their brand of incisive criticism and all the advice I have had so far has helped, not hindered, me.
