Yes I agree with Kate. I'm a member of a local library writing group. Ours e mail us about any local events where we have workshops with authors and then write a short poem/story about it.
Try asking at your local library or bookshops. There might already be writing groups that weren't found by Google.
Even if you find that there really are no existing groups, your library or bookshop might help you start one or know other local people that would be interested.
