I like to write spontaneously but often get confused with the time line. Things are in the wrong order and then i try to move them and it all gets confused

I tried scrivener and found it too complicated

thanks Martin

I'm going to agree with Simon, editing it your best friend when it comes to sorting out your writing. Because of it, I've noticed things that don't really fit, or what I've missed.

Editing! That's where problems get sorted out the most.

Try ywriter. It allows you to reorder scenes, swap scenes from one chapter to another and a host of other stuff. It has a date tag for every scene, and so keeping track of a logical time line is a snip. You also have the option of using an external editor, (all files are stored as RTF) so you can write wordpad if you choose and have a distraction-free writing environment. I found it more intuitive than Scrivner.

Another approach is to use MS word (or similar), and put scene descriptions, dates, POV etc... formatted with various header tags. These are all then visible in the navigation panel and easily moved in blocks. Set up a good template with defined styles and you can use it for most projects.

Gook luck,
