What is the most popular type of YA fiction? I'm wondering for a new book I'm starting.

I'm writing a YA novel too, and I've gone down the sci-fi route. I agree 'Dark Romance' is what's popular at the moment, but I'm not sure how long that trend will last. Write what you love though rather than writing what you think will sell. (Though if it sells that's never a bad thing!)
Yes Heidi, show the YA audience they have different stuff to read. Like the book I'm writing is for this very audience and although it has some dark stuff in it, the small side romance isn't.

To hell with what's in and what's not! Go with what you feel. Be fresh - dare to be different! why does a YA have to follow a trend - it doesn't:)
