Perfect Your Children's Book Pitch
To celebrate the return of our Children’s Writers & Illustrators Festival, authors Clare Povey and Camilla Chester put their soup and sandwiches aside to offer this one-off lunchtime session dedicated to perfecting your children’s book pitch.Let’s be honest. Writing a good pitch is hard. Summing up what’s at the heart of your book in the most succinct and intriguing way you can in the hope of appealing to a prospective literary agent or commissioning editor is a tough task, and one that even the most experienced children’s writers agonise over.In this one-hour session, Clare and Camilla will break down the process of putting together a pitch. They’ll look at the different types of pitch (covering letter pitch, one-liner, elevator pitch), discuss the importance of research, and consider how a pitch might differ if you’re writing picture books, middle grade or YA.They’ll also share examples of successful children’s book pitches that you can use as inspiration for your own before you put pen to paper to apply their top tips to your pitch-in-progress. And a reminder that *all* Children’s Writers & Illustrators Festival 2026 attendees receive an invite to our ‘The Power of the Pitch’ panel discussion featuring an independent bookseller, literary agent, and a commissioning editor from Bloomsbury Children’s.
