On Retellings

On Retellings

We are really looking forward to welcoming you to ‘On Retellings’.

The likes of myths and fairytales, legends and classics, are timeless. They are stories we come back to again and again. So how can we, as writers, retell these stories for a contemporary audience?

Award-winning author Sarvat Hasin (The Giant Dark, Strange Girls) will be exploring retellings on the page; how you can approach them and what you can do with them.

Through creative writing exercises and expert advice, she’ll offer her insight into how you can use changes in genre, setting and perspective to place an old story in a new light. Sarvat will answer your questions about how far you can stray from the original, and how to subvert expectations and surprise your reader in a familiar story.
