Writing a Sense of Place
We are really looking forward to welcoming you to ‘Writing A Sense of Place’.
Do you want to craft a sense of place in your writing, strong enough to pin your characters to the spot and to transport your readers directly to them?
Award-winning novelist Sheena Kalayil (The Others, The Bureau of Second Chances) will be sharing her advice on how to create an immersive sense of place in your writing.
She'll share techniques for bringing a place to life on the page and situating your characters and your story within it, across both contemporary fiction and historical fiction. She'll discuss the key things to keep in mind when writing a place you've never lived in, when writing a familiar place and when writing a familiar place at an unfamiliar time. Plus she'll discuss how much importance to place on research when writing real places.
Sheena will also explore place through language, offering tips on evoking a linguistic landscape and writing multi-lingual and diverse characters.
