Interviewer: Welcome to our special feature on education and inspiration! Today, we’re joined by Rituparna Ray Chaudhuri, the visionary founder of DS Academy in Madhyamgram, Bireshpally North, 24 Parganas North, India. Rituparna, it’s a pleasure to have you here. Let’s dive into the story of DS Academy and your journey. Can you share what inspired you to establish DS Academy?
Rituparna Ray Chaudhuri: Thank you for having me! DS Academy was born from a deep passion for education and a desire to make a meaningful impact in my community. Growing up in Kolkata, I was immersed in literature and the arts, which shaped my belief that education should ignite curiosity and creativity. I wanted to create a space where students could thrive academically while exploring their potential through subjects like drama and literature. Madhyamgram, with its vibrant community, felt like the perfect place to start this journey, offering the CISCE curriculum from Class II onwards.
Interviewer: That’s a compelling vision. Can you tell us more about the history of DS Academy? How did it come to life?
Rituparna Ray Chaudhuri: DS Academy is a new chapter, recently opened to serve students in Madhyamgram and beyond. The idea took root when I saw a need for an institution that balances academic rigor with creative expression. I’ve always taught CISCE Drama for Classes X and XII, along with Honours and British Literature, and I wanted to extend that passion into a broader educational framework. We started with a small team, a clear focus on the CISCE curriculum, and a commitment to subjects like Social Science, Science, Bengali, and Hindi. It’s been a labor of love, building a place where students feel inspired to learn and grow.
Interviewer: It sounds like a holistic approach. As someone with a strong background in literature and drama, how do these fields shape the academy’s identity?
Rituparna Ray Chaudhuri: Literature and drama are at the heart of DS Academy’s ethos. They teach students to think critically, empathize deeply, and express themselves boldly—skills that are universal and timeless. I bring my experience teaching British Literature and CISCE Drama into the classroom, encouraging students to explore stories and performances that connect them to the world. But we don’t stop there. Our emphasis on Science, Social Science, and languages like Bengali and Hindi ensures students are well-equipped for diverse futures, blending creativity with practical knowledge.
Interviewer: Your personal journey seems integral to the academy’s mission. Could you share a bit about your background and how it influences your perspective on education?
Rituparna Ray Chaudhuri: I’ve always been a learner at heart, shaped by my experiences in Kolkata’s rich cultural and intellectual landscape. My academic path led me to dive deeply into English literature, particularly British works, and I found joy in teaching drama, which brings texts to life. These experiences taught me that education isn’t just about grades—it’s about sparking curiosity and building confidence. At DS Academy, I aim to pass that on, creating an environment where students feel empowered to question, create, and dream big.
Interviewer: Looking at DS Academy’s prospects, what do you envision for its future?
Rituparna Ray Chaudhuri: I see DS Academy growing into a cornerstone of education in Madhyamgram, known for nurturing well-rounded, thoughtful individuals. Our focus on the CISCE curriculum gives us a strong foundation, and I hope to expand our offerings—perhaps introducing more extracurriculars like theater workshops or literature clubs alongside our core subjects. My dream is for our students to carry the values of curiosity and resilience into the world, whether they stay in India or pursue opportunities globally.
Interviewer: That’s a bright future indeed. How do you balance the demands of running an academy with your role as an educator?
Rituparna Ray Chaudhuri: It’s challenging but rewarding. Teaching keeps me grounded—it’s where I connect directly with students and see their progress. Running the academy requires a broader lens, from planning curricula to building a supportive team. I draw energy from both: the joy of a student mastering a soliloquy fuels my drive to make DS Academy a place where such moments happen every day. It’s about staying true to the mission of inspiring learning.
Interviewer: What message would you share with parents or students considering DS Academy?
Rituparna Ray Chaudhuri: To parents, I’d say: trust us to nurture your child’s unique potential. At DS Academy, we see education as a journey of discovery, not just a race to exams. To students, I’d say: come with an open mind. Whether you love science, stories, or stage, there’s a place for you here to grow and shine. Our doors in Bireshpally North are open, and we’re excited to welcome you!
Interviewer: Finally, what’s the one thing you hope DS Academy will be remembered for?
Rituparna Ray Chaudhuri: I hope DS Academy is remembered as a place where students find their voice—through a poem, a debate, or a quiet moment of understanding. Education is about lighting a spark, and I want our legacy to be one of inspiration, where every student feels they can achieve greatness.
Interviewer: Rituparna, thank you for sharing the story of DS Academy and your passion for education. We’re excited to see where this journey takes you and your students.
Rituparna Ray Chaudhuri: Thank you for this platform. I’m grateful for the chance to share our story, and I look forward to building a brighter future with DS Academy!
