Do you find yourself doing this?
A few days ago I found myself analyzing a poem I was writing WHILE writing it. It happens to one of my friends as well; She said she kept seeing weaknesses in her writing, so much that it put her off writing.
so, do you analyze while you write as well?
I think I must be the odd one out and am wondering now if the way I write isn't the way it should be done. I never know what's coming next, for me it's like watching a film in my head so for me to stop and analyze would interrupt. I only go back when I have finished everything and I mean everything when the story finishes. Am I odd? please I shouldn't have put in a ? I'm pretty sure the answers would come thick and fast so take the last bit as rhetorical please. maybe if everybody wrote in the same way eventually there would be a format and stories and poems would become "samey" so from a novice point I would say do it as you feel works for you it will probably change as you change. Regards Paul
Oh yes, I do too. I usually glean through a few times to correct and sometimes re-correct sentence structures, spelling mistakes etc. But then again, as hard as I try to ensure that everything is fine, there are bound to be a couple of mistakes cropping up again. It's like the eyes somehow play tricks on me. :-D
In the case of poetry I most definitely think about every line as I'm writing it but I wouldn't call it analysing. It's more that I want to make sure that the message I'm trying to convey comes through in the way I want it to ... but not too obviously. I also like to make sure it flows and I often put a poem away and go back to it years later.
