Feeling under the weather big time...

Hi writers,

I have been under the weather all this week after showing my work to a person I thought would love it, instead they shot my dream down in seconds using words like 'this really isin't great, honestly who would want to by this?' Now i'm left wondering if he really did have a point, but I dont know what I should do.... Give up or try again.

Forgot to add that over time you develop a thicker skin too so don't get knocked sideways by every criticism. x

I think this happens to all of us at some point in the early days & once you get over the upset (I always think of it as standing in the open with no clothes on, very vulnerable) you'll find they've done you a favour. Put it away for a while & then think why wouldn't anyone want to buy it, how can it be improved? You'll look at your work much more critically and over time will learn how to present it carefully, taking on board good advice along the way. Don't be in a rush.

I'm constantly aware of my failings and learning all the time, literally. Reading endlessly helps too.

I've certainly gone through the 'I'm rubbish, why bother' scenario but I'm still trying! Forget about aiming to be published for the moment, sit back and concentrate on enjoying making your story the best it can possibly be. Basically chin up & don't give up!
