flagging when redrafting

this is a serious question because I'm wondering if I will ever finish the redrafting of this novel. After about two hours or so of working on the book I find myself actually nodding off at my laptop, I am so mentally drained I have to leave it for a while and detach from it completely. now I would love to know is this just me or is it something others out there have to cope with. this is day time work by the way not in the middle of the night like it used to be.

Regards Paul

Thank you for your input, again I think there is something to se said for the "proper" pc, think it is time to splash out again, we got rid of ours a few years ago thinking laptops was the way to go, it would seem everything has its place.

My regards and thanks, Paul

I have noticed the sleepy feeling too and I think it is to do with the laptop. Even if I sit at a desk or table my eyes are slanting down at the screen. It doesn't take very long in this position for my half closed eyes to want to got the whole way and just close, perhaps sending a message to the brain to get sleepy. Looking at the keyboard while typing makes it even worse.

I have found that printing out the story onto paper is the best way to edit it with an old fashioned pencil before going back to my laptop to make any changes because there is less time spent looking at the screen with that fixed downward stare. And the paper is great for drawing on, flicking back, general comments or even spreading out or piling up in chapters or whatever.

The second best way is to use a desktop computer with a large monitor positioned so that my eyes are generally looking straight ahead. Unfortunately the gamer in the house has first dibs on that, so I often give up after a bit and have a snooze or go outside to 'wake up my eyes'. Luckily I can touch type.

I don't think laptops are the best tool for writing or editing, unless on a tray, breakfast-in-bed style.

Thank you, I will be moving about more I think now, my problem is I just love what I do but, unless I take the advice I might end up like some of the characters... written out!

Thanks and Regards Paul.
