A few months ago I submitted my book to an agent and, as I didn't hear back from them, assumed they were not interested. However they have now got back to me and yay! They are interested. Trouble is, in the months since I submitted my book has been split into two and much of the first three chapters removed. So my question is, should I send the original manuscript I pitched to them, or explain the situation and send the new one instead? Or both? Any input is much appreciated, thank you, Helen
Tough one.
I think the real issue here might be making sure that any submission you send to an agent or publisher is the very best it can be. Don't be too quick to send work out. If you felt the need to edit and make wholesale changes then perhaps the original work wasn't 'finished'.
I hope that whatever you decide they are understanding. It's obvious they liked the original piece so hopefully will like the new version.
I would send the first manuscript as it was this one that they showed interest and well done on hooking their attention, I can't wait till I send mine out to the big world as well!
Thank you Mark and Tiago for your feedback - I agree Mark, I am thrilled to have an agent interested in my work. As an update, I have just spoken with them and they have asked for the new version of the book which I have just sent through. So now it's fingers crossed....
Thank you again for all your comments :-)
