How drafts until the final final final draft?

by Jannine Smith

I just recently finished my novella and I'm soooooo proud that I actually got something completed, and even more surprised of the fact I only started writing my story back in March by 'accident'.

Now, I'm in the process of writing a 'draft' and probably umpteenth drafts after that...

I'm wondering fellow writers, how many drafts until satisfaction? Or better still, the final draft which you think that is going straight to the publishers?

Opinions and tips welcome :)

Thanks

Roughly six weeks away from your manuscript, while you work on shorter pieces should be enough to look back over it with a fresh perspective. However, there has to come a time when you finally say that you're finished (usually when you're sick to death of the sight of it). I agree with Khai about getting it critiqued and/or appraised by an objective professional ... Good luck!.

In the end you just have to say 'enough' and let it go....
