How far do you think you can go?

Hi fellow writers,

Just a quick question, bit of research I'm conducting and would really value all your opinions. I'm writing a contempory piece that covers both romance and fantasy for the young adult market. How far do you think you can go when it comes to the, let's say, 'relations' between the characters. I'm attemping to protray actual emotions in an unnatural (if you like) enviroment. What do you think?

I totally agree with the two previous comments. Most often, 'less is more'. Imagination is more thrilling than having graphic portrayal.

Sex is more and more common in books. Just look at the widespread popularity of 50 shades (that was originally a Twilight fanfic, I believe) etc etc

But with that said, I don't believe sex needs to be graphic in a book for youngsters. Hermione and Ron only kissed in HP and that was one of the most anticipated moments ever. I believe sex is necessary in a romantic book, but like John, I think that youngsters would get more distracted if the scene is too graphic rather than having to imagine it yourself. Maybe putting a more emotional spin on the 'relations' would suffice?
