How to get back into it??

A few months ago a friend of mine insulted my writing. Ever since then I haven't written a single story, or continued the book I was planning to finish a few months ago. My family members try to help, but I just don't feel it anymore... How can I get back to it???

Hey, Sara!

Don't give up just because of that insult. Yes, I have been insulted too, and yes, it makes me stop writting. But go show your work to some one you know will appreiciate it (Show us!) Then they/we can encourage you :) I think many people have already done that :)

If not, (this was what I did) There's a chapter in WAYB 2014 on what you should do in the face of rejection. It was encouraging, but I think human encouragement helps more.

So don't give up just coz of an insult. Prove your friend wrong ;D

Sara the best example I can give you is J.K. Rowling, she was rejected 12 times before the first harry Potter book came out. Rest the world knows.

There will always be those who'll try to keep you down, don't let them win. channel that anger into your writing energy.

all the best for future writing.

Hey,

First off, why are you allowing someone else to ruin your dream? What makes your friend any more of an expert than you are? Think how many successful writers are rejected by people who don't recognise their talent. What was your gut feeling about your work before he or she ruined it for you? Were you enjoying yourself? If so, you need to get that back. Maybe try something new if you are not feeling it any more, ie flash fiction, short and concise or a poem or something to get you moving again. Try doing morning pages, writing anything until you find a wee gem that you think, ok I could use that. And before you show anyone your work think carefully. My husband and I have very different ideas in what works and what doesn't, so I don't show him anything. Similarly my parents think Ithe way I write is weird but hey so what? You have to believe in that tiny wee part of you that says you can do this and more importantly, you enjoy this. And keep going.
