How to get the writing mojo back?

by Mark J Braybrook

Hi All, I was quite active here in 2014 until I became unwell and lost my motivation to write. After 4 years of inactivity, I'm trying to get back on my writing bicycle but wondered if any of you had any tips on how to re-capture that missing mojo? All ideas and suggestions appreciated. :-) Mark

Firstly I said to myself 'do not panic it will come!' Secondly I isolated where I was stuck? I was stuck on a character and I just looked at people and thought would they be a character in my story. My trigger came at a dinner party and I was off. Glad you are well

Hi Mark

Following on from Adrian's advice to read, read, read, I'd recommend reading 'On Writing' by Stephen King. It's partly his autobiography and partly his take on the whole process of writing. It's the best book I've read to keep me focused. Good luck!

A good way to get your writing mojo back is to read, read, read.

By that I mean read books in your genre by acclaimed, award-winning authors of prestigious awards. The best authors will inspire you and improve your writing.

Learn from the best.

Write. Rewrite. When not writing or rewriting, read. I know of no shortcuts - Larry L. King.

I hope that helps.

Good luck.
