I have just missed the deadline for getting my recently-born publishing concern into the WAYB listings for 2016.
So I'm using this Q&A option to get the word out. Anyone interested?
BE WARNED: NO advance royalties; a shoestring budget; and a long list of disadvantages...
BUT if you think of it as a "self-publishing agency" that DOESN'T ask you for £500 upfront and ISN'T modestly shy about telling you what %age of profits on sales you'll make, you might just be interested.
Biggest advantage: We don't tie you to a contract, so that whenever you find a publisher elsewhere which can offer you a better deal, you're free to follow it up.
HOWEVER: We DO have strict standards, so please read http://la-granota.com/press.htm CAREFULLY before submitting.
@ Rachael Pearson,
The first book has been printed in paperback and in 2 trilingual versions. Send me a PM with your snail-mail address and I'll send you a copy with 20% friends' discount. Unfortunately, we're not registered as publishers in Spain (which is where we print the books and send them out) so don't qualify for special "printed matter" postal rates. But if you order more books at the same time, the same P&P is charged, immaterial of the number of books.
Yours,
Jimmy
@ Paul Garside: That's fine! In fact, we're going to be pretty run off our feet for the next few months anyway. In April/May I travel to the UK to record the English soundtrack for our first book's video plus a "taster" video for advertising on YouTube. The Spanish and Catalan soundtracks also have to be recorded. The French, German, and Italian ones will have to wait...
In August we're holding our official launching party, by which time we hope to be able to have 4-6 books, including Alice And I, ready. If you're an Alice fan and can spare the time, you and/or your wife might be interested in submitting poems, any kind of graphics, short stories, essays... Here there IS a deadline, the 20th of July. See http://la-granota.com/party.htm (or children's version - without the drugs reference: http://la-granota.com/comp.htm) Please spread the word. Hi Jimmy,
Great idea, and even better that someone with lots of enthusiasm and drive is making the effort to make it work! I'd be interested in giving it a go. The only problem is I don't have an illustrator so my picture books are actually just rhymes at the moment. Do you have any artisits on board yet? I love the frog - whoever drew that would be welcome to illustrate one of my books!
Also, once your book is printed, could I get a copy? I'd really like to see how they come.
Cheers, Rachael
