How important is the ‘Profile’?
Does it earn its keep?
My ‘Profile’ is lengthy – but needs to be if it is to improve the opportunities of landing bigger fish?
Observations on my ‘Profile’ (with comments on your own) would be most welcome.
ps: Did I do right in adding a film clip?
Helen.
You give good advice for aspiring writers.
I do not have other sites and was trying the W&A site to see how interested people might be in 'Profiles' - apparently few are.
More exposure would not help, as editors using me know me already (of course they may die or be fired!). In any case there are only twenty-four hours in a day. Up to a point I can pick and choose - though I never turn an offer away - I may not be asked again.
I have toyed with the idea of a blog (as you suggest), and that may be fine for new-comers, but it could bring in enquiries I do not really want. It all depends how far up the ladder you are.
About a blog (and this may interest others), I keep up extensive e-mail correspondence with my contacts, and this I find to be better - it is targeted after all. You probably know the PR statement about using a blunderbuss or a rifle to hit your target; I prefer the rifle.
Thank you for the good wishes.
Edward
The profile is long – too long for using on a site such as this.
Is this your only online presence? I would recommend you create a blog/website and use the content from your profile for specific pages – competition success, background, aspirations, etc. Even the film clip will find a logical home.
You can’t rely on just one site to attract interest. Blogs, Facebook Author Pages, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. are all free to use. Creating the content takes the time – but you’ve already done that.
By having the profile shared on other platforms you will increase interest in your work.
Good luck!
Lorraine.
Thank you for the prompt reply. I do not agree with your comments so will be interested in what others have to say.
Sorry you missed the film - you may have supported the 'Be Kind To Beetroot League'.
'If only things had been different' - I like your phrase, but have to tell you my writing life has been based on, 'If only things had been different' - healthy eating for a start!
Don't worry about information overload; I am reminded of what Alan Herbert did to win his university seat in Parliament...
