Hi Writers,
I was wondering whether it was normally to get around the half way mark of writing a novel and then stopping and coming up with something better and begin writting that instead. I hope this has happened to other people and not just me. I always find that when I think "This is a great idea," and then i'm like "Oh hey, this idea is much better," ............. See what I mean :/
Hi Theo,
I have heard most people stumble around the 30,000 word mark. If you can get through that, it is generally possible to finish.
Has anyone ever put novels/novellas into the competitions for publication and a prize like Bridport, Cinnamon Press and Impress? I am tempted to give it a go.
rosa.
Yes I am already planning my next one and I am only half way through the one I'm writing now. Also many of my characters deserve a story all to themselves :)
I think if you're half way through your novel then you should jot down the new idea for the next project & continue with the novel, unless it's turning out to be useless. Otherwise it's always tempting to start something new whenever you get stuck. I'm speaking as a serial starter of new ideas with a pile of part-finished works here! I need to take my own advice.
