Is anyone taking part in NaNoWriMo this year? I have decided to take part but Im nervous I wont do so well. Im challenging myself with time I dont have to complete a brand new Novel. All the while I have not even finished my first Novel that I started 5 years ago. Is this a good idea?

What is this NaNoWriMo? Is it a competition or an exercise?

Yes, I'm doing it this year. I don't know if I'll manage the magic 50,000 words ( I haven't in previous years) but that's not the most important goal for me. The main reason I do NaNoWriMo is because it gets me writing faster so I can ignore the dreaded inner editor. I'm naturally a very slow writer who feels the need to rewrite and edit every sentence before moving on to the next. NaNo gives me permission to just get those words out of my head while promising to tidy them up 'later'. Yes, most of what I produce is rubbish but I'm often pleasantly surprised to find ideas, sentences - sometimes whole paragraphs! - that I can recycle when I go back to my normal writing.

Good luck to everyone else doing it!

I have just signed up to the website and completed my profile. I will be using November to complete my second novel. I have approximately 50k words still to write on it so hoping this will provide my with the impetus to finish it off.

Might also try and make one of the London write-ins, if my work allows me.

Anyone interested in chatting about their progress or looking for support feel free to add me as a writing buddy. My user name over there is michaelanstead.

Good luck to everyone taking part
