Hi all. A simple question really. When would be the best time to number your ms pages? This may sound silly and obvious, of course at the end. But I thought I had finished some work and realised I had to make an adjustment to it at the beginning therefore moving the page number down onto the top of the next page. Then came the task of shuttling the rest of the page numbers around. This happened several times and was annoying and time consuming. Is there an answer to this? Thanks.
Thanks Edward what a great idea. I'll get that sorted it's going to save a lot of messing about.
I let Word and/or PagePlus add page numbers automatically, The ms may get shorter or longer but the numbering is all taken care of for me.
I print a copy of my ms after every major re-write and find the numbering invaluable. If I drop the paper copies I don't have the problems of re-reading everything to put the pages back into their correct order, for the numbers are there to assist me.
The numbering of the re-write pages helps me to make notes that something mentioned on page 74 of ms3, is on page 67 of ms 6. This prevents a lot of floundering about.
Thanks Lorraine. I think it might be best to not number anything until, as you say, I'm sure I've finished. I've decided to delete all the page numbers and just carry on editing the thing to death before I add them. Don't know where I'm thinking of submitting yet but I don't think it will be any time soon. Thanks again.
