Hi Fellow Writers, does anyone know of a short story being successfully expanded into a novel? I'm currently thinking I could do something with my short story posted on this site 'Dogs of War'.
I've always been lead to believe that short stories and novels are very different beasts (pun!) and never the twain should meet, however, does anyone know of an instance where this has been successfully achieved?

Hi Carmelita and Ashwerya, thanks for your positive words and enthusiastic responses. I've fired up my computer and started a rough outline of where a potential novel could progress to. It's got me thinking and writing again after a spell away so that's got to be the biggest bonus.
Slightly confused by your response Thimmiri! I'm not sure I'm attempting any record breaking but I will let you know if I do! :-)
