Strange dream, but it opened my eyes.

The wierdest thing has just happened to me and I cant believe it has taken me this long to figure it out. Since the time I decided to be a writer with an idea in mind, I've had a queue of diffrent ideas and characters ever since. Last night I had a dream of eveything that had crossed my mind and it all fit together like a plot to an amazing story. There is also one character that speaks louder than the rest and has been with me from the start, clearly she wants to be the main protaganist here. Has anything like this happened to you??

Sounds like you are someone who needs to keep a pad and a pen on your bedside table so you can jot down your dreams before they dissipate.

I think authors are also tapping into their subconscious when they use strategies to beat writer's block - they busy themselves with some other manual task and the conscious part of their mind concentrates on that. Then when they are least expecting it, the idea they've been waiting for just pops into their head.

I need to take the advice to have a pad and pen handy. I always seem to have great ideas when out of the house, and I end up jotting them down on old till receipts in my handbag!

I've written a children's manuscript (32,000 words) and it all stems from a dream I had as a child. I believe some of a writer's best plots stem for the subconscious mind - go with it Theodore, it could take you to some wonderful places!
