I have a dilema . Many short story competitions ask for previously unpublished work . Do they count stuff posted on a site like this as having being 'published''?
I want to get my stories read before I submit as the feedback is so helpful. Anyone got any useful info in this regard.
Ps. posted another poem a few days ago which I would be grate someone would crit!
Ok great. Thanks a lot. I suppose the rules can be interpreted in different ways too! Will keep reworking my stories and may be submit something! Just gearing myself up!
I think if it's only up for a small amount of time and doesn't appear in a google search it should be ok. I agree it's much better to get feedback. Comments people have made on my shared work have really helped me. There's things others see that you don't. Some competitions say 'not previously published' includes social media and I'd be wary then.
No - posting for critique on a 'members only' site is not publishing. It's not for public consumption. If you asked your next-door neighbour to beta read your MS, is that publishing? It's exactly the same thing.
Blogs are different. There you're inviting general viewing, so posting would be considered publishing.
But it all depends on competition rules, as Louise said..
