websites

Hi Writers,

I was wondering whether I should set up a website at this point even though I'm currently drafting. Is earlier better than later? And what would I put on there for a writer who is hoping to get published one day?

Thanks all

I've been part of various websites linked to my musical endeavours and the absolute kiss of death is not updating the content often enough. A friend of mine who designs websites told me that often people will return to the site a couple of times but if there is nothing new they will probably not return. That's a sobering thought!

Hi Theodore,

I recently started a blog through WordPress where I'm writing about my experiences as a writer, from general stuff about ideas to the things I am going through submitting my manuscript to agents. Eventually if (when) I get published I'll use it as a platform for promoting my work as well. Basically I just had to pay a fee for the domain name and the rest was free - I'm promoting it through Facebook as well. I agree with Al that it's never too soon to start and I think it can be a good thing to have in place when you start approaching agents. Also it's a great way to keep your mind ticking over as a writer - I've set myself a deadline of posting once a week - so that's a nice challenge!

Hope that helps :-)

I would think well written short stories would be ideal to post - they would give a flavour of your style and probably show how your skill is developing.

Some writers sites that I've seen discuss their views on what they're currently reading, aspects of what they're currently working on, events they've attended and thoughts on particular aspects of writing i.e.. characterisation, developing a plot, how to write about emotions etc etc Plus sharing appropriate articles & links to other sites.

Established writers of course display their wares and can discuss things like 'book-signing' events and giving talks.
