I ploughed through the collected works of Honore de Balzac, and enjoyed it. But then, I am a bit of an anthropologist myself. As my daughter says, he can take pages just to describe one small thing. It also scared me to see how France in the 1800's seemed to have the same political and social obsessions and social decay we have here in 21st century UK. Then there was "The Teleporter" by Lee Hal, which made me laugh out loud. It's a fun look at the whole "superhero" thing, and a very wry look at the whole poet/writer community. I loved it. I also read the 3 "who sent Clement" books. They were an entertaining romp with a dab of the supernatural, clever whodunnit plots with a lot of twists, and with a bit of feelgood thrown in. It got me through my long bout of flu.
I bought some old books at an auction and discovered Hugh Walpole - The Herries Chronicle series, The Green Mirror (such an excellent observation of old English society), etc.
This month I have read The Sleeping Sickness by
Hellbender, A.R. which is a Steampunk Sleeping Beauty story. and Sculpt Yourself by Savy Leiser. I'm currently reading Edge of Darkness by Vikki Romano. All for the Indiecember challenge.
