What is important, writing every day no matter what, or when you feel the desire to?

I try to write every day but being stay at home dad with a three year old and an eight month old to look after it's a bit difficult.

I write when I have time and feel in the mood. I don't get a lot of time as my life is pretty full, but it is also important that when I have time I am in the right mood otherwise I just destroy what little confidence I have by thinking everything is naff.

I do know someone who writes everyday and commits to writing 2000 words each time, but because she just write more and never revises or looks back she can never improve on what she writes. Its just personal preference I suppose.

When I feel the desire I write... Then I go mad and can not stop for days or even weeks at a time.
