The word "essay" came to Russian from French and historically goes back to the Latin word exagium (speedypaper review). The French "essai" can literally be translated with the words experience, trial, attempt, sketch, essay.
I have been offered a 'buy back deal' by a publisher for a non fiction cookery book- I have to buy 2000 books at a 50% discount and they will pay for all origination and production costs, photographer, designer, copy editor, printing. I get an advance on royalties in 4 instalments of 10K. I believe that for the price point suggested for the book I will pay up front 26K which with the full advance would mean I had paid 16K to get the book published. Is this a bad idea? Am I better going down the route of assisted self publishing and how can I be sure to get a reputable organisation?
I'm a professional web designer and a writer as well. I started my first project as a freelancer this year and in the back of 2019, I was also working for the professional logo design company in Sharjah. Now I'm thinking that to start my own website to provide professional services to my clients on the freelance platform. So it is a good decision to create a new site or should I stick with freelance work?
I am an avid writer/artist/illustrator. I have published books about philosophy in the past, and more recently written poetry, a compelling memoir, and quirky, colourful stories for children. But, despite sending my work to publishers and agents continuously for the past 2 years plus, I simply cannot find anyone who will take me and my incessant creativity.
