Jericho Prize for Children's Writing 2021

2nd August 2021 9:00am to 2nd September 2021 12:00pm

Calling all unpublished or self-published Black-British children's writers!

The inaugural Jericho Prize for children's writing is open to Black-British writers with great stories to inspire children aged 4 years plus and 7–9.

From 9am 2 August to 12pm (midday) 2 September 2021, send them your finest finished manuscript for a chance to win a cash prize, exclusive access to publishing industry professionals, and more.

The Jericho Prize wants to showcase talented Black-British writers who may have faced barriers to traditional publishing. This is a prize for writing: please do not include any illustrations with your submission.

As a Jericho Prize winner, you'll learn from industry experts, develop your manuscript, and, eventually if your book is published, broaden your audience. Your brilliant stories are needed.

The prize is looking for manuscripts aimed at young readers and your work must fit into one of these two categories:

1. A picture book for 4 years plus. No more than 800 words OR

2. A short chapter book for the 7–9 age range between 10,000–15,000 words

All manuscripts must feature a Black or mixed-Black main character. (Read their FAQs for more guidance.)
