This course, run by award-winning writer and teacher, Janis Mackay, now in its 15th year, will offer one full day per month in person workshops, covering various aspects of the fiction writer’s craft. The course is held at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh. In addition to these hands-on creative writing workshops the course has a zoom gathering, one evening per month, with a focus on sharing of work in progress and giving and receiving supportive reflection. Students on this course will also have a one hour one to one tutorial.
Other events and gatherings may take place organically, such as writing buddy support and author related outings. The novel writing course also has an autumn long-weekend writing retreat (accommodation for this is not included in the course fees). The course ends with a writer’s showcase in early January, where novel writing students have the opportunity to read from their work in progress to interested members of the public.
Janis has twelve novels published, both for children and adults. She won the Scottish Children's Book Award in 2013 with her novel, The Accidental Time Traveller, published by Floris Books. Recently she brought out a novel for adults; On a Northern Shore, published by Luath Press. Janis is a storyteller and writer, and creative writing tutor at Edinburgh University.
The course, which covers 81 hours of contact time, costs £1400, with two bursary places of £1250. To book, or register interest, please email [email protected] or follow links on website: https://www.janismackay.com
