Historical fiction is a great vehicle for storytelling. You may have a specific story that can only be told in the past. Or perhaps you have a fascination with a historical place or period. Either way, this workshop will show that writing historical fiction need not be a daunting prospect.
Join us on Saturday 25 February for this Writing Historical Fiction workshop led by author Louise Hare and explore your historical fiction project, or create ideas for a new story, in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Following an overview of the basics of writing historical fiction, its challenges and rewards, you will take part in two writing exercises.
Louise Hare has an MA in Creative Writing from Birkbeck, University of London. Her debut novel, This Lovely City, was published in 2020 and is set in post-war south London. It featured on the inaugural BBC TWO TV book club show, Between the Covers, and was shortlisted for the RSL Ondaatje Prize. Louise was selected for the Observer Top 10 Best Debut Novelists list in 2020. Miss Aldridge Regrets is her second novel, a Golden Age murder mystery published in 2022.
Louise is currently the lead tutor on the coaching programme for The History Quill and was also a judge on the 2022 Historical Writers Association Gold Crown award. For the past two years she has also judged on the Morley Prize for Unpublished Writers of Colour.
